Top 5 To-Do's for the Gratitude Season

It can be difficult to pull our attention away from the thousands of things going on in our lives, but winter holidays are the perfect time to step back and take stock of all the people, experiences, and things in our lives. Here's our short list of tools and programs that will jump-start your attitude of gratitude this holiday season—to lift your spirits and perhaps inspire some of us to reach beyond our usual comfort zones to help or inspire others.

  1. Start Every Day in a State of Gratitude

Holistic health leader Amy Arnold created the VitalSelf Challenge which includes 2 daily steps to get you in the right frame of mind for the holidays. The challenge is to live in gratitude and "pay it forward" (do a random act of kindness for someone else) for 30 days.

  2. Tweetsgiving

Organize or Attend One of the Tweetsgiving Events Around the World

Attend an event or give a few dollars to support the school that the Twitter community helped to build for children in Tanzania! This year the Tweetsgiving effort is bigger & better than ever, organizing events across the globe.

  3. Share Inspiration

The Gratitude Challenge, sponsored by Tiny Prints, shares some remarkable stories of gratitude. Watch their video, download their gratitude calendar, or just send some thank-you notes—when was the last time you did that?

  4. Operation Gratitude

    Support Overseas Troops

Operation Gratitude seeks to lift morale and put smiles on faces by sending care packages addressed to individual soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines deployed overseas. The care packages contain food, hygiene products, entertainment items, and personal letters of appreciation, all wrapped with good wishes of love and support. You can donate money, items, or letters.

Separately, the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation is organizing locally-hosted TweetUp4Troops events during Veterans Day week to generate funds to support the Trees for Troops program. To date, Trees for Troops has touched 50,082 military families by providing them a fresh, farm-grown Christmas tree for the holidays.

  5. 29 Gifts

29 Gifts is a global giving movement with thousands of people involved. Mission? To revive the giving spirit in the world. Try the 29-day gift giving challenge and see how it changes your life. And watch Cami Walker's inspirational story that started it all.

Happy holidays from the Thankfulfor team!
